More CBD Facts You Should Know

An interesting fact observed with CBD is that as time goes on, you need a lesser dose to achieve the same effects due to cannabinoids, like CBD (and THC), being fat-soluble compounds. Your body stores cannabinoids in fat, and gradually releases them so their effects are prolonged. This is why many cannabis users can fail (THC) drug tests days or weeks after ingesting or inhaling cannabis.

In an article published in The British Journal of Pharmacology by Dr. Ethan Russo (July 12, 2011), “Taming THC: Potential Cannabis Synergy and Phytocannabinoid-Terpenoid Entourage Effects”, Russo discusses many, many potential uses for cannabinoid therapy including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-cancer, antibiotic, antifungal, anti-nausea, anti-MRSA, anti-anxiety, memory protection and reduction of stroke risk.[14]

A-Pinene is just one of the many terpenes found in cannabis and is widely found in nature, particularly in conifer trees and the herb rosemary, and has an insect-repellant role. In humans it is anti-inflammatory and a bronchodilator and has been effective against MRSA. These terpenes, part of a plant’s essential oils, contribute to a plant’s scent, flavor and color and may have some therapeutic effects simply by aroma. Limonene is another well-known terpene and it is found in the yellow skin of lemons. Limonene is known to have anti-bacterial, anti-depressant and anti-carcinogenic properties.

All of the compounds found in the various Hemp Family of plants – the cannabinoids, the terpenes, the fatty acids, the enzymes, etc. – they all act together in a synergistic symphony (The Entourage Effect), each playing it’s part to create the whole. This implies some beneficial functions may be lost if only one substance from the whole plant is teased out.
